Click on Custom Install, and then in the drives section click on delete to clean off the partitions, and once the disk is nothing but free space, select that drive. If you are unable to see that stuff, get your hands on a bootable linux distro, boot off the CD, and run gparted to clean off the disk partitions.
You should also have the BitLocker recovery key ready to be used if you don't do this. "but is that space still part of the C drive?" - It will be unallocated space at the end of the disk. 1. You cannot extend a disk partition to another disk. That cannot be done. You can add a D: drive as another drive. It can be basic or dynamic, but I always use Basic. If you need a bigger drive, then it appears now is the time to get a larger drive for your computer.

When trying to add a new volume (or extend another volume) using the unallocated space, it's as if there is no space at all. What can I do? P.s. there was some sort of warning when I first tried to extend the volume of drive F. I think it was about the fact that the basic volume is being converted to dynamic and if so an OS cannot be installed.
